Before we can clear your property of rising damp, we need to understand how bad the situation is. We do this by conducting a damp survey. We begin where the rising damp is noticeable – often because of tide marks. From here, we can determine if there are damp issues elsewhere in the home, as well as their likely cause.

Identifying rising damp

Rising damp is different from other forms of damp and requires a particular form of treatment, so identification is key. Damp Proof Course (DPC) injection

The simplest and most effective method for treated rising damp is through a Damp Proof Course injection. Holes are drilled into the mortar at strategic places and a water-resistant cream is injected. This soaks into the mortar and, once dry, creates an impermeable seal, preventing further water ingress. It is a fast and efficient process for eliminating rising damp.

Damp Proof Membrane (DPM)

An alternative to DPC injection is to install a new Damp Proof Membrane. This is, by necessity, a more complicated treatment method. It involves removing bricks from the exterior wall one at a time to insert the waterproof membrane. While it is a service we can provide, we usually recommend a Damp Proof Course injection as being more cost-effective.

Internal walls

To treat rising damp on an internal wall, our first step is to strip down any wallpaper or plaster. This lets us access the bricks or substrate to perform a DPC injection and prevent the reoccurrence of rising damp. Once the DPC has dried and set, you will need to instruct someone to re-plaster and repaper your wall.
